I burst at the seams every time I think about this past year. I burst with happiness and sadness. I burst with gratitude. I burst with LOVE. I can't believe how much has happened, where I was, where I am now. . I am learning every day how to channel my grief into a more meaningful life. . This Christmas season is a different one for me. Last year it was blue, dark and depressing and this year it is bright and cheerful with a side of grief. Missing my dad will never ever ever ever ever ever ever go away. . It feels like yesterday we were hopping on a water taxi heading off to Bowen Island to photograph Jill and Elliot's celebration. We were unsure what the weather was going to do that day but no matter what it did we were prepared to embrace it. I strongly believe what happens, is meant to happen for us. If you put the work in, you will move mountains. When I go through hard times, I try to remember as best I can, the teachings of my dad. ⠀ ⠀ He always told me that a flower does not bloom over night. You must plant the seed, nurture it and over time you will have a beautiful bloom. ⠀ ⠀ Self discovery, unlearning bad habits, learning new ways of thinking, learning your partner and even learning how to have an open mind. These are all hard things to do. It is hard work to let people SEE you. It's uncomfortable to be vulnerable. It's not easy to do things you could fail at. Although it is tough, IT IS POSSIBLE and it is beautiful. ⠀ ⠀ I could tell you that we can change the word hard and use a different more encouraging word but I don't believe that to be true. The work I put in to my relationship, into myself, into being a mother, being a sister and even my business. It's not fucking easy. It's one foot in front of the other, its one conversation at a time, it's one introverted day and then extroverted day. ⠀ It just is.
